An increasing number of manufacturing facilities are planning to set up robotic industrial grinding workstations. However, they frequently encounter difficulties in the procurement of robotic grinding heads, leading to project delays and suboptimal processing results. For automated grinding to be successfully implemented, attention must be paid to several key indicators when selecting grinding heads.

Firstly, confirm the end-effector load of the industrial robot. The weight of the grinding head must not exceed the robot’s rated load capacity, as this could affect the precision of repeated positioning and accelerate joint wear. Secondly, distinguish between different processing techniques. For rough deburring, use large-torque pneumatic robot grinding heads; for mirror-like polishing, opt for high-speed electric models. Additionally, given the presence of dust and cutting fluid in the workshop, it is essential to choose models with high protection ratings.

Purchasing high-performance robot grinding heads solely does not mean that all grinding challenges can be resolved. If the workpiece’s surface is complex and the raw material’s tolerances are large, rigid grinding solutions may still result in missed grinding or excessive cutting. During the initial planning phase, it is necessary to combine the workpiece drawings to determine whether a flexible floating structure needs to be added.
Prioritize robots with standardized interface grinding heads, as they will be easier to replace grinding media and upgrade later on. It is recommended to send workpieces for on-site grinding testing before making a purchase to visually verify the rotational speed and grinding effect, thereby avoiding the risk of making a purchase based solely on parameters and ensuring the stable operation of industrial robot grinding production lines.
